Overview

A portfolio is a portable container for storing materials related to a person's work. There are many types of portfolios that are used in a variety of ways. Portfolios used for instruction and assessment are of most interest here. Assessment portfolios in particular are an important educational innovation. When properly designed, assessment portfolios are learner-centered, reflecting a range of activities and evaluative modalities. This can lead to a richer, more holistic picture of the learner's progress.

Beginning with version 5.1, evalCGI supports online administration of portfolios. This process links student and faculty workflows into The ePortfolio Cycle. A typical student screen is shown below (the student's name has been blurred for this example). It has two major parts, an upper area for text submission and a lower area for file management. Entries are listed by category, submission date, and file type. Click on the links above for a more detail discussion of each component.
